The XPENG P7 is an executive smart electric four-door coupe from XPENG Motors, built around a core philosophy of tech aesthetics and advanced intelligence. Serving as the brand's second mass-production model, the P7 portfolio spans multiple product lines to cater to diverse segments: the P7+ targets the value-driven RM200,000-class family market, while the all-new generation P7 and P7 Max spearhead the brand's push into the premium segment with high performance and advanced ADAS capabilities.

The core XPENG P7 line-up is structured into three distinct product tiers. First is the P7+, which targets the mid-to-large liftback coupe segment, with the 2026 iteration priced from RM186,800 to RM198,800 (Max variant) across range-extender (EREV) and fully electric (BEV) powertrains. Second is the all-new XPENG P7, which takes on the mid-to-high-end segment with supercar-inspired styling and cutting-edge autonomous driving; launched in September 2025 with an indicative price tag of RM219,800 to RM301,800, it features an 800V platform and 5C ultra-fast charging as standard. Third is the P7 Max, introduced in March 2026 with a lower entry price of RM203,800, positioned as a "high-value smart-driving coupe". In 2025, retail sales of the all-new P7 reached 20,842 units for the full year, though monthly deliveries dwindled to just several hundred units heading into 2026; conversely, the P7+ has maintained a steady monthly run rate of around 5,000 units post-launch, helping the P7 nameplate defend its best-seller crown in the RM150,000–RM200,000 mid-to-large electric coupe class through January 2026.
The XPENG P7 range adopts the brand's signature smart aesthetic design philosophy. The all-new P7 spans 5,017 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width, and 1,427 mm in height, riding on a 3,008 mm wheelbase with an aspect ratio of 1.40, giving it a low-slung, wide-track stance. Up front, it features a flush, illuminated logo integrated with full-width LED daytime running lights, alongside optional scissor doors; the rear end incorporates an active electric spoiler that deploys dynamically with road speed to generate up to 900 N of downforce. It boasts an ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.201 Cd, outclassing most rivals in its segment. Meanwhile, the family-centric P7+ adopts a liftback profile measuring 5,071 mm long, 1,937 mm wide, and 1,512 mm tall with a 3,000 mm wheelbase, offering a standard boot volume of 440 litres.
Underpinning the all-new P7 is a full-domain 800V SiC high-voltage architecture paired with a 5C ultra-fast charging AI battery pack. The rear-wheel-drive single-motor variant outputs a maximum of 270 kW, while the dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant delivers a combined 437 kW and 695 Nm of peak torque, dispatching the 0-100 km/h sprint in a blistering 3.7 seconds. CLTC-rated range options include 702 km (Long Range), 820 km (Ultra Long Range), and 750 km (AWD). Thanks to 800V 5C charging tech, a 10-minute top-up adds 525 km of range, while a 10% to 80% state of charge (SoC) takes just 11 minutes.
The P7+ is available with both range-extended and fully electric drivetrains. The range-extender version combines a 1.5T engine generator (110 kW) with a 180 kW rear-mounted electric motor, yielding a pure electric range of 430 km and a total combined range of 1,550 km; the pure BEV version offers CLTC ranges of 615 km and 725 km, charges from 10% to 80% in 20 minutes via DC fast charging, and returns an energy consumption rate of 12.5 kWh/100 km.
Chassis engineering stands as a cornerstone of the XPENG P7 series. The all-new P7 comes standard with dual-chamber air suspension and CDC intelligent variable damping shock absorbers, boasting a near-perfect 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution and a low centre of gravity of 440 mm, achieving a lap time of 1:38.767 at the Zhejiang International Circuit and a 100-0 km/h stopping distance of 35.58 metres.
The P7+ is underpinned by a front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension setup, complemented by DCC intelligent variable damping, a Taiji hydraulic bushing matrix, and an AI road-preview system. This setup enhances comfort bushing damping by 35%, bump compliance by 27%, and steering response by 17%. Working in tandem with AI road preview, a 6D anti-motion sickness algorithm scans road undulations up to 30 metres ahead and recalibrates the damping within 300 milliseconds, significantly mitigating body roll through corners and start-stop pitch.
The smart cockpit is driven by the Tianji AIOS 6.0 operating system running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chipset. Standard interior appointments include a 15.6-inch floating central infotainment screen, an 8.8-inch fully digital instrument cluster, and a 29-inch AR-HUD head-up display. The cabin is upholstered with a Microfiber suede headliner and certified baby-safe eco-friendly materials, with acoustic laminated and privacy glass fitted standard for the front row.
Creature comforts are plentiful: standard kit includes a 20-speaker Xopera premium sound system, dual 50W wireless phone charging pads, a capacitive steering wheel with heating, ventilated/heated/massaging seats, and a fold-out tray table behind the front passenger seat. Rear passengers enjoy up to 120 mm of knee clearance, while boot capacity starts at 575 litres and expands to 1,929 litres with the rear backrests folded flat, accompanied by a 56-litre front boot (frunk). The cramped rear headroom that compromised older fastback models has seen substantial gains in the all-new P7.
Autonomous driving tech remains the marquee differentiator for the XPENG P7 line-up. The all-new P7 features the full-scenario XNGP intelligent driver assistance system as standard across all variants, driven by second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) and VLM foundation models with a peak computing power of 2,250 TOPS. The perception hardware suite integrates LiDAR, millimetre-wave radar, and high-definition cameras, facilitating autonomous car-following, lane changes, obstacle avoidance, and highway ramp navigation on urban expressways and in closed business parks.
For active safety, Autonomous Emergency Steering (AES) and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) operate reliably at speeds of up to 130 km/h, performing dependably even on icy and low-grip surfaces. On the passive safety front, the vehicle is engineered with a high-strength safety cage and a comprehensive multi-airbag array.
To optimise costs, the P7 Max adjusts its driver-assist hardware by scaling down the three standard Turing chips found in the Ultra variant to a single chip, reducing computing power to 750 TOPS. Full-spec performance can be unlocked via optional upgrade packages (RM12,000 to RM20,000). These add-on packs bundle 2 to 3 Turing AI chips with the Gen-2 VLA system, providing a clear upgrade path for high-level autonomous driving capabilities.
As XPENG's flagship sedan, the P7 has undergone a pronounced boom-and-bust market cycle. Following its launch in September 2025, the all-new P7 recorded 8,110 units in its debut month before sliding to 5,662 units in October and plummeting to 2,902 units in November. By January and February 2026, monthly volume had slipped to 800 and 676 units respectively. Conversely, the P7+ has stayed relatively resilient with around 5,000 units sold monthly, effectively anchoring overall nameplate volume.
Industry observers attribute the all-new P7's sharp sales contraction to blurred product positioning: in trying to balance the original P7's sharp handling heritage with family-car practicality, it ended up satisfying neither camp. The aggressively styled mecha design alienated legacy buyers, the fastback silhouette continued to compromise rear headroom, while the more affordable P7+ cannibalised sales from within the same showroom. Furthermore, a controversial product strategy rolled out in March 2026—de-speccing standard smart driving hardware and charging extra to restore it—eroded buyer confidence even further.
Customer feedback remains polarised. High praise is consistently directed at the chassis balance and ride quality, with the class-above dual-chamber air suspension and DCC adaptive dampers garnering widespread acclaim. The proven maturity of XNGP on highways and city streets, along with the slick responsiveness and multi-modal interactions of the Tianji AIOS cockpit, remain the P7's headline selling points. However, against fierce competition like the ZEEKR 001 and Tesla Model 3, 800V architectures and 5C supercharging are now mere table stakes; the absence of a unique, decisive "must-buy" hook is seen as the root cause of its sales slowdown. Quality concerns have also dampened sentiment: by June 2026, warranty complaints regarding brake judder, abnormal noise, and premature wear had spiked noticeably. Other owners reported severe front-left suspension defects resulting in RM23,000 to RM30,000 in vehicle depreciation, with service centres offering only loyalty points as compensation.
Heading into mid-2026, XPENG has committed to continuous updates for the P7 family. The P7 Max aims to strike a viable middle ground between brand prestige and showroom volume by lowering the barrier to entry while keeping advanced smart driving hardware upgradeable. As the foremost showcase of XPENG's design ethos and technological prowess, the P7 line-up faces a decisive trial in shifting from an overnight viral sensation into an enduring cornerstone of the brand.
